We are not really going to suggest that you should only take vacation in mountains, any vacation to anywhere is a welcome change and it truly makes the desired impact. I just came from cycling expedition in Himalayas, it may not classify as vacation but I will take it that way.
There are several reasons why we must take a vacation in mountains, I particularly found these three things exciting and it’s all based on self-observation.
1. We really don’t breathe; we inhale and exhale air. Realistically speaking in our corporate life, we simply learnt to inhale and exhale, we forget to breathe. You might go and take a walk in park or an early morning jog to breathe but a good stroll in mountains will make you realize the true meaning of breath. It’s important to experience it because once you understand the difference, you may be able to take pause and breathe instead of inhale and exhale. Pause to breathe; we are not in so hurry!
“Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one’s lifetime.” ― Mark Twain
2. Mountain’s will make you realistic, the view from your cubicle on 13 or 14th floor may make you think like big boss but you really not. Be humble while you go up, climbing down becomes easy. Mountain peaks will always tell you the fact, there will be other peaks to be conquered but its important to come down safely first. Coming down successfully is an extraordinary sense of achievement, it will prepare for more climbs. Coming down from that high rise building (thoughts) and meeting people on your way has a sense of achievement, you will be more realistic and humble.
3. The extremes of Himalayas or any such mountain will make tougher then you can think, it’s a test of your patience, adaptation and flexibility. No, I am not going suggest you to go ahead and risk your life in mountains; it’s all about the choices we make. You may you own ways to strengthen your patience, adaptation and flexibility Being there and understanding the local life, the brutal nature and the survival techniques of locals will make you think strategically and innovatively. I have personally experienced it!
Point is, just go out and a take a vacation in mountains, you will return enriched spiritually and mentally!
